AmerneXt

A new recording in Spring 2016 labeled  Dissenting Voices on New Focus Recordings, featuring rarely-heard works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Shostakovich, and Mieczysław Weinberg, who was one of the most important recent re-discoveries, is considered by many the third of the great Soviet composers, alongside Prokofiev and Shostakovich.

AmerneXt is a new initiative by the quartet bringing the most important works of the modern string quartet repertoire into focus. The composers range from Wolfgang Rihm, Toshio Hosokawa, Jörg Widmann, Bernard Rands, and Georg Friedrich Haas to Michael Gordon, John Adams, Philip Glass, and beyond. AmerneXt will also feature the music of some of today’s most important young composers. For temporal context and contrast, these programs will also include transcriptions of folk music from each composer’s country. As always, at the fore will be the classic Amernet Sound, a warm, burnished style reminiscent of an older approach to string quartet playing, as we remain connected to the great works of the standard repertoire plus those of the Shoah such as Schulhoff and Ullmann and the music of Latin America, past and present.
